A new ministry for South Tulsa is our Orphan Care Ministry.
Our goal is to engage the members of South Tulsa Baptist in orphan care in big and small ways while never losing site of the goal to make sure every child grows up in a permanent family. Whether you have just a few minutes, a few hours, or even a lifetime to give, I pray you will join us on this journey of fulfilling the call of Isaiah 1:17 “Learn to do Right; Seek Justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the Fatherless: plead the cause of the widow.” and James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
To further God’s kingdom by caring for the orphaned and abandoned children.
To make an eternal difference in the lives of orphans and waiting children and promote awareness of God’s heart for the orphan.
Volunteer at the Laura Dester Shelter
The need is very large, as you heard Sunday Oct 14. This is also an excellent way for volunteers to be introduced to foster children and foster care. You may remember that these kids are picked up first and dropped off last from school which is a good thing with collateral consequences amounting to a very long day for a child. Having a caring adult there to welcome them "home" and encourage them in their homework and studies can play a crucial role in a child's success at school.
Current education trends mandate that a child must be competent in reading at the completion of third grade in order to have a successful educational career. Your help with these kids and their homework could make a difference for generations to come.
If are interested let Alyson know and download the Laura Dester Volunteer Packet. (the link is below) You will need to attend a training time and Alyson can help you with that.
